Ultra Wales 50 : Ultra Trail Race in Southern Snowdonia
Ultra Wales 50 is a 51 mile mountain and trail race based at Coed y Brenin Visitor Centre in southern Snowdonia, scheduled for Saturday 20 June 2026. The route covers approximately 51 miles with 2,898 m of ascent and passes notable features including Cadair Idris (893 m), Rhinog Fach (712 m), Dolgellau and the Barmouth estuary, before returning to Coed y Brenin. This is the seventh edition of the event and entries are limited to 500 places. The overall cut off for the course is 20 hours.
The course includes six staffed checkpoints. Each checkpoint provides drinks such as cola, tailwind, water and juice, plus sandwiches, salted potatoes, fruit, snacks, crisps and chocolate; vegetarian and vegan options are available. Medical cover or first aid is provided at each checkpoint. Checkpoint cut off times are strictly enforced and all participants must check in at every checkpoint or face disqualification.
Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and is subject to random checks; required items include a hardcopy map, waterproof coat with sealed seams, baseplate compass, whistle, long sleeved base layer in a drybag, at least 1 litre of water, a charged mobile phone, survival foil blanket, a primary headtorch, a secondary light and the GPS tracker supplied by the organiser. Drop bags are not permitted and pacers or support runners are not allowed. Live GPS tracking and real time results are provided during the event.
