Ultra Wales 50 : event overview
Ultra Wales 50 is a 51-mile trail and mountain race in Southern Snowdonia, starting and finishing at Coed-y-Brenin Visitor Centre. The course has 51 miles and 2898m of ascent and passes Cadair Idris (893m), Rhinog Fach (712m), Dolgellau and the Barmouth estuary. The 2026 edition is the seventh running and is set for Saturday 20th June 2026. The overall cut-off for the race is 20 hours. Live online GPS tracking is provided via GB Race Tracker.
Logistics and rules
There are six checkpoints on the course, at approximately:
- 12 miles
- 18 miles
- 23.3 miles
- 31.4 miles
- 40 miles
- 46.3 miles
Participants must visit all checkpoints and have their details recorded. Checkpoints provide food, hot and cold drinks, and medical cover. Support crews are allowed at some checkpoints but are not permitted at Checkpoint 5 or Checkpoint 6. No drop bags are allowed and no pacers or support runners are permitted.
Entry details: places limited to 500 and the entry fee is £119. Minimum age is 20 and entrants must have completed at least a marathon before race day. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times; required items include a hardcopy map, waterproof coat, base plate compass, whistle, long-sleeved base layer in a drybag, minimum 1 litre water, charged mobile phone, survival blanket, primary and secondary lights, and the GPS tracker supplied by the organiser.
