Ultra Wales 50 - Event details
Ultra Wales 50 is a 51-mile trail and mountain race held in Southern Snowdonia. The course has approximately 2898 m of ascent and includes sections near Cadair Idris, Rhinog Fach, Dolgellau and the Barmouth estuary. The 2026 edition is listed with a field limit of 500 places and a race cut-off of 20 hours. Live online GPS tracking is provided for entrants.
Route, checkpoints and logistics
The route is marked as a 50-mile mountain and trail course with six checkpoints at roughly 12, 18, 23.3, 31.4, 40 and 46.3 miles, plus the finish at 51 miles. Each checkpoint offers food, drinks and medical cover. Support crews are welcome at several checkpoints but are not permitted at checkpoints around 40 and 46.3 miles. No drop bags will be transported to checkpoints and there is no facility to leave a bag at the start/finish area. Pacers or support runners who are not entered in the race are not permitted.
Parking is available at Coed-y-Brenin Visitor Centre with charges and restrictions. Camping in tents, fires and BBQs are not permitted at the start venue.
Mandatory kit and rules
Participants must carry mandatory kit at all times, including a map, waterproof coat with sealed seams, base plate compass, whistle, long-sleeved base layer in a drybag, at least 1 litre of water, a charged mobile phone, survival blanket, a primary headtorch and a secondary light. A GPS tracker is provided and must be returned after the race. Random kit checks will be carried out and failure to carry required items can lead to disqualification.
