Event overview
Ultra Wales 50 is a trail and mountain race held on Saturday 20th June 2026. The course is 51 miles long with 2898 m of ascent and explores the lower reaches of Southern Snowdonia. The route includes Cadair Idris (893 m), Rhinog Fach (712 m), the Barmouth estuary and sections through Coed-y-Brenin forest. The event is the 7th edition, has 500 places and an overall cut-off of 20 hours. Live online GPS tracking is provided via GB Race Tracker.
Practical information
The race starts and finishes at Coed-y-Brenin Visitor Centre, Dolgellau. There are six checkpoints on the course at roughly 12, 18, 23.3, 31.4, 40 and 46.3 miles; support teams are permitted at most checkpoints but are not allowed at the 40-mile and 46.3-mile checkpoints. No dropbags are transported to checkpoints and no pacers or support runners are permitted.
Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and will be checked; required items include a hardcopy map (Harvey Maps XT40 or OS Explorer OL18 & OL23), a waterproof coat with sealed seams, a baseplate compass, whistle, long-sleeved base layer in a drybag, at least 1 litre of water, a fully charged mobile phone, a survival/foil blanket, primary and secondary lights and the GPS tracker provided by the organisers. Entrants must be at least 20 years old and must have completed a marathon-distance event prior to race day.
