Ultra Wales 50
Ultra Wales 50 is a 51 miles trail and mountain race based at Coed-y-Brenin in Southern Snowdonia. The course includes 2,898 m of total ascent and passes notable features such as Cadair Idris Penygader (893 m), Rhinog Fach (712 m), Dolgellau and the Barmouth estuary.
The event is limited to 500 places and has a 20 hour overall cut-off. There are six checkpoints on the route that provide refreshments (cola, tailwind, water, juice, sandwiches, salted potatoes, fruit, snacks, crisps and chocolate), vegetarian and vegan options, and medical cover. Checkpoints have strictly enforced cut-off times and participants must check in at every checkpoint; failure to do so will result in disqualification. Drop bags are not permitted and no pacers or support runners are allowed.
Entrants must be at least 20 years old, in good health and must have previously completed an organised event of at least marathon distance. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and may be checked before and during the race; required items include a hardcopy map, waterproof coat with sealed seams, base plate compass, whistle, long sleeved base layer in a drybag, at least 1 litre of water capacity, a fully charged mobile phone, survival blanket, primary and secondary lights and the GB Race Tracker GPS device.
Live online GPS tracking is available via GB Race Tracker. Finishers receive medals by finishing position and there are prizes for the top three male and top three female finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
