Ultra Wales 50
Ultra Wales 50 is a 51 mile trail and mountain race in Southern Snowdonia based at Coed-y-Brenin. The course includes about 2898 m of ascent and visits Cadair Idris (893 m), Dolgellau, the Barmouth estuary and extensive forest trails.
The event is limited to 500 places and has a 20 hour overall cut-off. There are six checkpoints along the route; each checkpoint provides drinks, a range of food including vegetarian and vegan options, and a medic or first aider. Checkpoint arrival is recorded and missing a checkpoint leads to disqualification. Checkpoint access and parking are restricted at some locations and supporters are asked to follow the organiser guidance.
Participants must meet qualifying criteria: be at least 20 years old, be in good health, and have completed an organised marathon distance under race conditions before race day. No pacers or unofficial support runners are permitted. Drop bags are not allowed and there is no facility to leave a bag at the start or finish.
Live online GPS tracking is provided via GB Race Tracker and each entrant is issued a mandatory GPS tracker. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and includes a map, waterproof coat, compass, whistle, long sleeved base layer in a drybag, at least 1 litre of water, a fully charged mobile phone, survival blanket, a primary headtorch and a secondary light.
